Plaza Mayor is the beating heart of Salamanca, a magnificent Baroque square renowned for its uniform architecture and lively atmosphere. Built between 1729 and 1755, it is one of Spain's largest and most beautiful plazas. The square is surrounded by three-story buildings with arcaded galleries, adorned with medallions depicting famous figures from Spanish history. Visitors can sit at one of the many cafés under the arches, watch street performers, or simply admire the intricate stonework. The Ayuntamiento (City Hall) dominates one side, while the Royal Pavilion features a portrait of King Philip V. At night, the square is beautifully illuminated, making it a magical place for an evening stroll.
