Castelló d'Empúries is a beautifully preserved medieval town in the Alt Empordà region, just inland from the Costa Brava. Its old quarter is a labyrinth of narrow cobblestone streets lined with stone houses, arched passageways, and small squares. The centerpiece is the Basilica of Santa Maria, a stunning Gothic church with a magnificent 15th-century altarpiece. The town also boasts remnants of its medieval walls and a lively main square, Plaça dels Homes, where locals gather. Despite its historic feel, Castelló d'Empúries has a vibrant atmosphere with shops, cafes, and restaurants serving local cuisine.
