The Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos (Alcázar of the Christian Monarchs) is a medieval fortress and palace in Córdoba, located along the Guadalquivir River. Built in the 14th century on the site of a former Visigothic fortress and earlier Islamic palace, it served as the residence of the Catholic Monarchs, Isabella and Ferdinand, during their campaigns to conquer the last Muslim stronghold of Granada. The fortress is known for its impressive towers, including the Torre del Homenaje (Homage Tower) and the Torre de los Leones (Lions' Tower). The interior features a series of courtyards and halls, notably the Mosaics Room with Roman mosaics. The highlight for many is the extensive gardens, with terraced levels, fountains, and orange trees. The Alcázar also housed the Spanish Inquisition for a time. Visitors can climb the towers for river views and explore the baths and dungeons.
