Cáceres railway station, known locally as Estación de Cáceres, serves as the primary rail gateway to the city and the wider Extremadura region. The station building, constructed in the late 19th century, features a distinctive eclectic style with elements of Neo-Mudéjar and local granite masonry. As you arrive, you'll notice the spacious main hall with high ceilings, original tile work, and wooden benches that evoke a bygone era of travel. The station is a working hub for both long-distance and regional trains, including the Madrid–Lisbon line and services to Mérida, Badajoz, and Plasencia. Despite its historic character, the station is well-equipped with modern amenities such as ticket machines, a café, and waiting areas. Its location just south of the city center makes it a convenient starting point for exploring Cáceres' UNESCO-listed Old Town, with a pleasant 15-minute walk through the modern city leading to the medieval walls.
