Miraflores Charterhouse (Cartuja de Miraflores) is a serene Carthusian monastery located about 4 km east of Burgos. Built in the 15th century on the site of a former royal palace, it is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture with a stunning interior. The church features a magnificent altarpiece by Gil de Siloé, carved from gilded wood, and the alabaster tombs of King John II of Castile and his wife, Isabella of Portugal. The monastery's simple, austere exterior contrasts with the ornate interior, reflecting the Carthusian ideal of solitude and contemplation. Visitors can tour the church, the cloister, and a small museum. The peaceful setting, surrounded by gardens and woods, makes it a perfect escape from the city.
