Bilbao Cathedral, officially the Cathedral of Santiago, stands in the heart of the city's Casco Viejo (old town). This Gothic-style church, built between the 14th and 16th centuries, is dedicated to Saint James the Apostle and marks an important waypoint on the Camino de Santiago. Its façade features a striking rose window and a bell tower that offers panoramic views of the surrounding narrow streets and plazas. Inside, visitors find a serene nave with ribbed vaults, a cloister with a small garden, and the main altarpiece depicting scenes from the life of Christ. The cathedral remains an active place of worship, so visitors should be respectful during services. The adjacent Santiago Square is a lively spot where locals gather, and the cathedral's role in the pilgrimage gives it a special spiritual atmosphere distinct from other Bilbao landmarks.
