The Alcazaba of Almería is a sprawling Moorish fortress dating back to the 10th century, making it one of the largest of its kind in Spain. Visitors can explore three distinct enclosures: the outer area for troops, the palatial inner compound with gardens and pools, and the later Christian castle. From the ramparts, panoramic vistas stretch over Almería's whitewashed rooftops to the sea. The site also houses an interpretation center detailing its history, while the surrounding park is a peaceful spot for a stroll.

Don't miss

  • Climb the Torre del Homenaje for the best views of the city and coastline.
  • Wander through the restored Moorish gardens and reflecting pools in the second enclosure.
  • Visit the interpretation center to see artifacts and models of the fortress through the centuries.
