The Church of Saint Sava dominates Belgrade's skyline from its hilltop location in the Vračar district. This colossal Orthodox temple, built on the site where Saint Sava's relics were burned by the Ottomans, is among the largest church buildings in the world. Its white marble exterior and massive central dome are striking, but the interior is equally impressive with intricate mosaics and a grand chandelier. Visitors can descend to the crypt, which houses a treasury and a museum, or climb the dome for panoramic city views. The church remains an active place of worship and a symbol of Serbian identity.
Don't miss
- Admire the vast interior mosaics, including a giant Christ Pantocrator in the dome
- Visit the crypt to see the treasury and learn about the church's history
- Climb the dome (if open) for a sweeping view of Belgrade
