Chess City, or City Chess, is a surreal complex in Elista that celebrates Kalmykia's passion for chess. Built under the patronage of former president Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, it features a giant chessboard in the central square, a hotel shaped like a chess piece, and the Chess Museum. Visitors can explore the park, which is dotted with chess-themed sculptures, and even play a game on oversize boards. The complex also includes a concert hall and a restaurant, making it a cultural hub.
