The Heroes' Cross on Caraiman Peak is a towering steel structure built between 1926 and 1928 to commemorate Romanian soldiers who died in World War I. Perched at 2,291 meters, it is one of the highest crosses in the world. Visitors reach the site via a challenging hike or by taking the cable car from Bușteni to Babele and then walking. At the cross, you can enjoy panoramic vistas of the surrounding Bucegi Mountains and reflect on the monument's poignant history. The cross is illuminated at night, visible from afar.

Don't miss

  • Stand at the base of the 39-meter-tall cross and take in the 360-degree mountain views.
  • Hike the scenic trail from Babele to the cross, passing through alpine meadows.
  • Photograph the cross at sunset when the light casts dramatic shadows over the peaks.
