Babele, meaning 'The Old Women' in Romanian, is a collection of unusual rock formations on the Bucegi Plateau, shaped by centuries of erosion. These mushroom-like boulders, some standing several meters tall, create a surreal landscape that attracts hikers and photographers. The site is easily accessible via a cable car from Bușteni, which rises over 1,000 meters to the plateau. From Babele, visitors can explore the plateau's trails, visit the nearby Sphinx, and enjoy sweeping views of the Carpathian Mountains. The area is also a starting point for longer hikes.

Don't miss

  • Marvel at the whimsical shapes of the Babele rocks, especially at sunrise or sunset.
  • Take the scenic cable car from Bușteni for aerial views of the forested slopes.
  • Combine your visit with a walk to the Sphinx, just 10 minutes away.
