Freiha is a deserted settlement dating to the 18th century, located within the Zubarah UNESCO World Heritage buffer zone. Its low stone ruins include foundations of houses, a mosque, and a small fort, scattered across a sandy coastal plain. Unlike the more extensive Zubarah town, Freiha offers a quieter, more intimate experience of Qatar's pre-oil life. Archaeologists have uncovered imported ceramics and coins, indicating trade connections. The site is marked by interpretive panels explaining its history.

Don't miss

  • Explore the remains of a small fort with a central courtyard and corner towers.
  • Look for fragments of pottery and glass on the ground (but do not remove them).
  • Enjoy the solitude and views of the nearby coastline and mangroves.
