The Sanctuary of Fátima is a sprawling religious complex in central Portugal, built on the site where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared to three shepherd children in 1917. Pilgrims from around the world gather here to pray, attend Mass, and walk the esplanade leading to the Chapel of Apparitions. The atmosphere is deeply spiritual, especially during candlelight processions. The complex includes two basilicas, a large square, and facilities for millions of annual visitors.
Don't miss
- Visit the Chapel of Apparitions, built exactly where Mary appeared to the children.
- Join the candlelight rosary procession held nightly from May to October.
- See the monumental statue of Our Lady of Fátima at the entrance to the esplanade.
