Culatra Island is a vibrant barrier island in the Ria Formosa, home to a close-knit fishing community. Visitors arrive by ferry to find a colorful village of whitewashed houses, a bustling harbor with fishing boats, and wide, uncrowded beaches. The island's main settlement, also called Culatra, has a few cafes and restaurants serving fresh seafood. Beyond the village, the eastern end of the island offers quieter stretches of sand, perfect for swimming and sunbathing.

Don't miss

  • Stroll through the fishing village of Culatra, with its tidy houses, narrow lanes, and lively harbor.
  • Swim or sunbathe on the long, sandy beach that stretches along the island's southern shore.
  • Walk to the eastern tip of the island for a peaceful, less-visited beach area.
