First of all, most reviews here are not related to this restaurant. People put that for peninsula not this restaurant called old Manila We saw a lot of good reviews and decided to celebrate our day in this restaurant I was shocked to see the decor and setting of this restaurant. They are very dated and now looking like a cheap airport business lounge. No way close to a peninsula restaurant. The wall was like Bombay dream The music is some free stock loud repetitive music Once again fine for a business lounge Unacceptable for a fine dining or romantic place The service was good until I said the lobster was too raw. The waiter just tried to explain it should be raw. I said the tomalley was too raw and he just ignored. The foie gras as good. The lobster if not raw was good. My partner ordered a puffy pastry lobster and chicken. It was too wild and weird. They don’t match and they put lobster sauce on top of cream white sauce…. The complimentary cake was good and better than the dessert we ordered. The old Manila’s cigar was just for photo taking So in general it does not worth the bill and we are very disappointed with their “modern European” style cuisine Maybe it was good back in the 90s I feel sorry to leave review but they are just mediocre pretending to be a fine dining restaurant and no way that is near peninsula standard (lobby is way better) We paid over 8000 peso per head so I think we could expect a bit more?
Love the creations of Chef Gaël Kubler 🤩 Perfect for a date night of two or groups. The food tasted really well and the presentation of food is superb. Fine dining set meal worth php4590++ per head includes Veal Sweetbread, Tasmanian Salmon, and dessert Chocolate & Raspberry fondant. Must try: Tasmanian Salmon, Large Tiger Prawn, Chocolate & Raspberry dessert Be a PEN member to get discounts.
Just had a superb steak dinner with my daughter. Ambiance was top notch , an old world luxury type. Discreet approach by the wait staff is worth noting. The politeness make you feel at ease. The food was great , from the presentation to the actual taste. From salads to oysters and up to the main courses. Good thing this fine dining establishment was able to reopen.
I had dinner with my wife at Old Manila this evening. It is classic, understated, fine dining. The dishes we had were simple but superb produce and execution. Some interesting twists on classic ideas, like their truffle olive croissants. I have had some excellent dinners all over the world including several Michelin stared restaurants, and think it is no exaggeration to say that the main I had their tonight (lamb loin encrusted in ground pistachio) is in the top 5 meals I have eaten. Their desert was also very good. They seem to really value classic substance over being "on trend". Expensive, but exactly what I wanted.
