Trujillo Cathedral, officially the Cathedral Basilica of St. Mary, dominates the Plaza de Armas with its striking yellow exterior and twin bell towers. Originally built in the 17th century, it was rebuilt after earthquakes and features a mix of baroque and neoclassical styles. Inside, the cathedral is adorned with gilded altars, intricate woodwork, and a notable main altar carved from cedar. The adjacent Museo Catedralicio houses a collection of religious paintings, silverwork, and vestments, including works from the Cusco School. Visitors can climb one of the bell towers for panoramic views of the city and the plaza below. The cathedral remains an active place of worship, so respectful attire is required.
