Huaca de la Luna (Temple of the Moon) is a massive adobe pyramid built by the Moche civilization between AD 100 and 800. Located in the Moche Valley near Trujillo, it served as a ceremonial and religious center. The temple is famous for its colorful murals depicting deities, warriors, and mythical creatures, painted in red, white, yellow, and black. Visitors can climb the structure (via modern staircases) to see the intricate friezes up close and enjoy panoramic views of the valley. The site also includes a museum with artifacts like pottery and textiles. The experience is immersive, as you can see ongoing excavations and conservation work. The nearby Huaca del Sol, a larger but less restored pyramid, is visible across the plaza. Together, they formed the heart of the Moche capital.
