Puka Pukara, meaning 'Red Fortress' in Quechua, is an Inca military outpost and checkpoint perched on a hillside overlooking the Cusco Valley. Its name comes from the reddish hue of the stones, especially striking at sunset. Visitors can explore the terraces, stairways, and watchtowers that once controlled access to the capital. The site provides sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, making it a perfect photo stop. Unlike larger ruins, it is less crowded, offering a peaceful glimpse into Inca defensive architecture.

  • Watch the sunset paint the red stones against the valley backdrop.
