Brook Waimārama Sanctuary is a 700-hectare predator-fenced nature reserve in the hills above Nelson, dedicated to restoring native bird populations and forest ecosystems. Visitors can walk through lush, regenerating native bush on well-maintained trails, spotting birds such as kākā, tūī, and bellbirds that are flourishing thanks to the absence of introduced predators. The sanctuary offers a peaceful, immersive experience in New Zealand’s natural heritage, with a visitor centre providing educational displays. It’s a must-visit for nature lovers and birdwatchers.
