Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery lies just south of Nijmegen, near the German border, amidst rolling hills and farmland. This immaculately maintained site contains the graves of over 2,300 Canadian soldiers who fell during the final stages of World War II, particularly in the liberation of the Netherlands and the Battle of the Scheldt. Visitors are greeted by a simple stone entrance and a Cross of Sacrifice, with row upon row of white headstones set against manicured lawns. The atmosphere is peaceful and reflective, with many headstones bearing maple leaves and personal inscriptions. A small register building provides a book of remembrance. The cemetery is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by Allied forces, and locals often leave flowers or flags at the graves. It is a place for quiet contemplation, offering views of the surrounding countryside that saw fierce fighting in 1944–1945.
