Rising to 5,761 meters just north of Namche Bazaar, Mount Khumbila is considered the most sacred mountain in the Khumbu region. Sherpas believe it is the abode of the god Khumbila, who protects the local people. No climbing is permitted out of respect. The peak's distinctive pyramidal shape is a constant presence above Namche, often catching golden alpenglow. Visitors can admire it from viewpoints around Namche or on the trek to Thame. Prayer flags and small chortens at its base mark its spiritual significance.
