The National Museum of Myanmar in Yangon is a five-story building that houses the country's most important cultural artifacts. The highlight is the stunning Lion Throne (Sihasana), a gilded masterpiece from the last royal palace in Mandalay, along with other royal regalia. The museum also features exhibits on prehistoric times, ancient kingdoms, traditional costumes, and musical instruments. Visitors can see the famous Mandalay Palace model, a collection of Buddha images, and intricate woodcarvings. The displays are well-labeled in English, making it easy to follow Myanmar's rich history from early civilizations through the colonial era to independence.
