El Badi Palace was built by Sultan Ahmad al-Mansur to celebrate a victory over the Portuguese, but today only its vast walls and sunken gardens remain. The name means 'the incomparable,' reflecting its former glory with imported Italian marble and gold. Visitors can explore the huge courtyard, climb the ramparts for views over the medina, and see the storks nesting on the walls. The on-site museum displays artifacts from the palace's heyday, including a restored minbar from the Koutoubia Mosque.
Don't miss
- Climbing the ramparts for panoramic views of Marrakesh
- The stork nests on the palace walls, especially active in spring
- The museum with the restored Koutoubia minbar and Saadian artifacts
