Mnajdra is a remarkable prehistoric temple complex dating to around 3600 BC, situated on Malta's southern coast near the Blue Grotto. Part of the UNESCO World Heritage listing for Maltese megalithic temples, it consists of three conjoined structures built from massive limestone blocks. The lower temple is particularly famous for its astronomical alignment: during the equinoxes, sunlight illuminates the main doorway and a central niche. Visitors can walk among the ancient stones, marvel at the corbelled roofing and intricate carvings, and imagine the rituals that took place here thousands of years ago. The site offers a profound connection to Malta's Neolithic past.

Don't miss

  • Observe the equinox sunrise alignment that lights up the main doorway of the lower temple.
  • Examine the intricate stone carvings, including spiral motifs and animal figures.
