The Inquisitor's Palace in Birgu is one of the few surviving palaces of the Inquisition in Europe, now a museum that offers a glimpse into the secretive world of the Holy Office. Visitors can tour the grand halls, private apartments, and chapel, all furnished with period pieces that evoke the life of the inquisitor. The palace also features a reconstructed torture chamber, complete with instruments, which starkly illustrates the harsh realities of the Inquisition. The building itself is a fine example of Maltese baroque architecture, with a serene courtyard and ornate stonework.

Don't miss

  • See the restored courtroom and the inquisitor's private chambers with original furnishings.
  • Visit the torture chamber to view authentic instruments and learn about interrogation methods.
  • Stroll through the peaceful courtyard and admire the baroque architectural details.
