The food was surprisingly good. Try the samosas. They've exceptional. The beef broth is also worth a try. We ordered a second portion of fries – they were THAT good. Drink measures are exact (=miserly) but that seems the norm across Nairobi bars. This is one of the better restaurants I've visited in Nairobi. I'll be going back for sure.
Top quality modern African restaurant and they aren't afraid to get a bit adventurous, push the boundaries and try different things with traditional ingredients. The samosas were delicious and well presented, we could've only eaten a dish of each flavour for dinner. Our waiter David was also great, he was knowledgeable about the dishes and also had a good sense of humour and personality. And the restaurant itself and decor was beautiful. We had a lovely time!!
When my breakfast experience was underwhelming, I asked for the waiter Geoffrey (who is positively mentioned by many in the reviews). He immediately made my lunch and dinner experience fantastic in terms of service and quality. This included him connecting me with Chef Jonathan to make sure I ordered dishes that best met my needs. Geoffrey said to me: "Tribe is a cocktail of people, yet we’re one family. When we work together, we form a masterpiece. Clients are our number one priority. Tribe is one family and we work as one family to put a smile on clients’ faces." It was very true. Another waiter, Musau, separately said to me: "Your happiness is my priority. Before you walk out the door, ensure you’re satisfied and happy." I 100% agree with this motto, which is why I raised my concerns at the outset. I loved how everyone, including Hostess Purity, was very receptive to my constructive feedback. The restaurant has the right personalities and food ingredients to make sure you have a great culinary experience. I highly recommend visiting Jiko and connecting with the abovementioned people to receive a personalised service.
Our waiter, Agnes was attentive, kind and communicative. The food itself was delicious. The Malenge Lasagne was to die for with a rich and balanced tomatoe sauce. The chicken caesar salad was fulfilling to say the least.
