Minato Mirai 21 is the central business district of Yokohama, developed in the 1980s as a master-planned urban center. It connects the historic Kannai area with the Yokohama Station district. Today, it is a major hub for business, shopping, and tourism, with skyscrapers, a convention center, museums, shops, and a pedestrian mall. The area is known for its bay views, the Yokohama Landmark Tower, and the Cosmo Clock 21 Ferris wheel.

A bit of history
The area was once the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Yokohama shipyard and a railway classification yard. It was proposed as a development plan in 1965, with construction starting in 1983. The name 'Minato Mirai 21' means 'Port of the Future in the 21st century' and was chosen by public poll. The development linked the previously separated Kannai and Yokohama Station areas.
