Yoyogi National Stadium is a landmark sports complex in Shibuya, Tokyo, renowned for its distinctive suspension roof design by architect Kenzo Tange. Built for the 1964 Summer Olympics, it hosted swimming and diving events, and later became a venue for basketball, handball, and concerts. The stadium consists of two main arenas: the larger first gymnasium (Yoyogi National Gymnasium No. 1) with a capacity of over 13,000, and the smaller second gymnasium. The sweeping, curved roof is inspired by traditional Japanese architecture and has become an icon of modern Japanese design. Today, it is used for sporting events, music concerts, and cultural gatherings. Visitors can admire the exterior architecture, and when events are not taking place, the grounds are open for walking. The stadium is located next to Yoyogi Park and Meiji Jingu, making it a convenient stop on a sightseeing route.
