Sendai Tōshōgū is a Shinto shrine built in 1654 to enshrine Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate. Visitors are greeted by a striking vermilion gate and can admire the shrine's lavish carvings, which include dragons, peonies, and other motifs that reflect the Edo period's artistic craftsmanship. The shrine grounds are shaded by tall cedar trees, creating a peaceful atmosphere ideal for quiet reflection. A highlight is the main hall, designated an Important Cultural Property, where visitors can offer prayers and purchase omamori (charms).
