The Sapporo Clock Tower is a charming wooden structure built in the American colonial style, originally constructed in 1878 as a drill hall for the Sapporo Agricultural College. It is one of the few remaining Western-style buildings from that era in Japan. The clock mechanism, installed in 1881, still keeps time today. Inside, a small museum tells the story of the tower and early Sapporo. The tower is a beloved symbol of the city and a popular photo spot.
