I think this place is where most of the local comes. Had a nice cold beer and a lot of skewers. I heard the price was cheapest among others shops. Owner was helpful advising on each how to best consume. The free refillable cabbage was surprisingly good !! Definitely return someday. Yummy
Great kushikatsu restaurant. Really good taste every sticks I had are enjoyable. One man operated this restaurant for more than 30 years. Small seating space and do not good for bring children here due to small space. Taste are so good, I really enjoy. Cash only. If you wanna try kushikatsu here's the place you will love. Definitely I have to go back if I can. Enjoy !
I’ve been here about 10 times, and would come back 10 more. If you’re looking for Kushikatsu in Shinsekai you are spoiled for choice but avoid the large halls with English menus and barkers calling you in. Avoid Kushikatsu Daruma’s gimmick statue and low quality. Just come here. Period. As others may have said the owner can be gruff, so don’t expect the traditional Japanese service and friendliness, you’ll get your food in a quick and efficient manner but beyond that, this is no frills. They do one thing - make amazing Kushikatsu. It’s small so you may have to wait for a seat, but it’s absolutely worth it. Definitely try the Okra and Pork Belly, both which have an original seasoning that doesn’t require the usual sauce.
Our Japanese friends took us to this hidden little local spot, and honestly it was the most delicious comfort food of our 16-day trip. They claimed it was the best kushikatsu in Osaka and I am certain they were right. I couldn't stop eating!! It was such an authentic experience - the chef behind the oil is referred to as The Masta, and he's hilariously temperamental. Don't expect to be catered to or smiled at, but he does fuss over you in a paternal sorta way. I think I dipped my kushikatsu in the wrong sauce, and he yelled, took my stick away and gave me a new one. I couldn't stop laughing. Another time, I put the food in my mouth too soon, and he yelled, "HOT-ah!" He referred to my husband as "Avenga - Hulk - Grr!" because of his strong brow. So funny. We struck up some conversation with the three other people in the place (there's only room around the bar table for 10 people) with my very limited Japanese, and next thing we knew they were buying us more kushikatsu and we were all friends by the end of the evening. At the end, we talked the reluctant Masta to come out and take a picture with us, but he insisted he put on a wolf mask for it. We had an epic trip, but this experience in a greasy little local place with action figures and penises on the shelves was an absolute highlight. His kushikatsu is delicious, delicious, delicious, and I felt like I experienced real Japan, not touristy Japan.
