Outstanding meal at Oimatsu Kitagawa. The food was delicious, and Chef Kitagawa and his excellent sous chefs were fun and engaging. Definitely going back - the monkfish liver was out of this world!
Some dishes were interesting, while others unpleasant (such as a chewy sashimi dish that never seemed to end). Service was adequate, but not to a 2 Michelin standard (I don't know if they still have the stars). For the price there are better options. Staff spoke decent enough English.
each dish was meticulously presented beautifully and made with the best ingredients. i made a reservation about a month or so before on their website. the location is not hard to find because of google but there is no english sign so please look for the japanese/chinese characters of the restaurant. taxi had no problem finding the restaurant. there are 3 price points available for the kaiseki meal and we opted for the middle price point. there was a small group next to us who got the top price point so i was able to compare a little bit. notably, they got an additional meat course (maybe some type of miyazaki or kobe beef?) and the final rice dish for them was crab rice while we had salmon egg (ikura) rice. they also got a small paper bag with a gift (perhaps a pastry or dessert of some sorts but i don't know). the rice dish was very good and you can get more bowls if you are still hungry. the main chef and sous chef are both excellent and very skilled. the overall environment is formal yet friendly. i highly recommend this restaurant for a traditional osaka kaiseki meal!
Sitting in front of the chef as he prepared a spectacular meal was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The combinations of flavours and textures were built up thoughtfully in each dish, giving a varied gastronomic experience from course to course.
