Visitors place coins or bills in bamboo baskets, dip them in the spring water, and then use the 'washed' money to attract financial good fortune. The shrine is dedicated to Ugafuku, a syncretic deity combining Benzaiten and a snake god, and the cave setting adds a mystical atmosphere. The practice is said to date back to the Kamakura period when a shogun had a vision.
