Izumo-taisha is among Japan's oldest and most important Shinto shrines, dedicated to Okuninushi, the god of marriage and good relationships. The main hall's massive shimenawa rope, woven from rice straw, is an iconic sight, one of the largest in Japan. Visitors walk through a serene forested approach, pass a towering torii gate, and can pray at the main hall or explore the shrine's museum. The atmosphere is deeply spiritual, especially during the annual Kamiari Festival when all Shinto deities are said to gather here.
