Hinomisaki Shrine perches on a rugged cape along the Sea of Japan, offering dramatic coastal scenery and a serene spiritual atmosphere. Dedicated to Amaterasu, the sun goddess, the shrine features vermilion-lacquered buildings that contrast with the deep blue sea and rocky shoreline. Visitors can walk along the cliffside path, enjoy panoramic views from the observation deck, and see the nearby Hinomisaki Lighthouse, one of Japan's tallest stone lighthouses. The shrine is especially beautiful at sunset when the sky and sea glow with warm colors.
Don't miss
- Take in sweeping ocean views from the shrine's cliffside observation deck, especially at sunset.
- Admire the vermilion main hall set against the dramatic coastal backdrop.
- Visit the adjacent Hinomisaki Lighthouse, one of Japan's tallest stone lighthouses, for more vistas.
