Viterbo Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, stands proudly on the Piazza San Lorenzo, adjacent to the Palace of the Popes. Its facade combines Romanesque and Gothic elements, with a striking rose window and a bell tower that offers views of the city. Inside, the cathedral is serene and spacious, with a wooden ceiling and several side chapels. The main attraction is the tomb of Pope John XXI, the only pope buried in Viterbo, located in a chapel to the right of the altar. The cathedral also houses a beautiful 13th-century crucifix and frescoes from the medieval period. Visitors often combine a trip here with a visit to the papal palace, as they share the same square. The peaceful atmosphere makes it a place for quiet reflection amidst the historical grandeur.
