The Chapel of the Holy Shroud is a masterpiece of Baroque architecture, designed by Guarino Guarini and built between 1668 and 1694. It connects the Royal Palace with Turin Cathedral, serving as the sacred repository for the Shroud of Turin. The chapel's dramatic interior features a soaring dome with an intricate star-shaped lantern, dark marble, and gilded stucco. Visitors enter from the Royal Palace, descending a grand staircase into a space that feels both intimate and awe-inspiring. The altar, where the Shroud was once displayed, is framed by twisted columns and a radiant glory. Despite a devastating fire in 1997, the chapel has been meticulously restored. Today, it offers a profound glimpse into the intersection of faith, art, and royal power.
