San Giovanni Battista is the main church of Chiavari, located in the heart of the historic center. Its neoclassical facade, completed in the 19th century, features a portico with Corinthian columns and a triangular pediment. Inside, the church is spacious and bright, with a single nave and side chapels. Highlights include a wooden crucifix from the 17th century, a painting of the Baptism of Christ by local artist Giovanni Battista Carlone, and a marble high altar. The church also houses a small museum of sacred art. Visitors often appreciate the serene atmosphere and the contrast between the ornate interior and the simple exterior. It remains an active parish church, hosting regular Masses and community events.
