Christ of the Abyss

Christ of the Abyss (Il Cristo degli Abissi) is a striking bronze statue of Jesus Christ, submerged in the clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of San Fruttuoso, near Santa Margherita Ligure. Placed at a depth of about 17 meters (56 feet), the statue stands with arms raised toward the surface, a poignant symbol of peace and protection for divers and fishermen. Created by Italian sculptor Guido Galletti, the statue was installed in 1954 and has since become a pilgrimage site for divers from around the world.
