Castello di Punta Pagana is a striking 17th-century fortress situated on a rocky headland jutting into the Ligurian Sea near Santa Margherita Ligure. Built by the Republic of Genoa to defend the coast, the castle is now owned by the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, which uses it as a retreat and conference center. The castle's strategic location offers sweeping views of the coastline and the open sea. Visitors are drawn to its picturesque setting, with weathered stone walls, a small chapel, and a peaceful garden. While the interior is not generally open to the public, the exterior and surrounding grounds can be admired from the nearby coastal path. The castle's distinctive silhouette against the blue water makes it a favorite subject for photographers. The area around Punta Pagana is also popular for swimming and sunbathing on the rocky shore.
