Minerva's Garden (Giardino della Minerva) is a historic botanical garden nestled in the heart of Salerno's old town. Founded in the 13th century by the physician Matteo Silvatico, it is considered one of the first botanical gardens in Europe, originally used for teaching medicinal plants to students of the renowned Salerno Medical School. The garden is terraced on a hillside, offering beautiful views over the city and the sea. Visitors can explore a collection of over 300 species of plants, many with medicinal properties, arranged in geometric beds. The garden also features a small museum, a herbarium, and a charming café. It's a peaceful oasis away from the bustle of the city, perfect for nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike.
