San Pietro is a striking black-and-white striped church that stands at the tip of the Porto Venere peninsula, surrounded by the sea on three sides. Built in the 13th century on the site of a Roman temple dedicated to Venus, it combines Romanesque and Gothic elements. The interior is simple but atmospheric, with stone columns and a raised presbytery. The real draw is the location: from the church terrace, you have breathtaking views of the Gulf of Poets, the Palmaria Island, and the open Ligurian Sea. The church is often less crowded than the Cinque Terre villages, making it a serene spot to soak in the coastal beauty.

Don't miss

  • Black-and-white striped Gothic facade
  • Terrace with panoramic views of the Gulf of Poets and Palmaria Island
  • Ancient marble columns and medieval stonework inside
  • Nearby Byzantine-era ruins and the Porto Venere harbor
  • Sunset views from the church steps
