Palmaria is a rugged, forested island just a short ferry ride from Porto Venere. It is the largest island in the Ligurian Archipelago and a protected area within the Cinque Terre National Park. The island is crisscrossed by hiking trails that lead to panoramic viewpoints, abandoned marble quarries, and secluded coves. The most famous beach is the Cala dei Francesi, a pebble beach with crystal-clear water. Palmaria is also home to the Torre Scola, a 16th-century watchtower, and the Grotta dei Colombi, a sea cave. Visitors come for a half-day of hiking, swimming, and exploring the island's wild beauty.
