Manarola is often considered the most photogenic of the Cinque Terre villages. Its brightly colored houses tumble down a rocky promontory to a small natural harbor, where fishing boats are pulled ashore. The village is smaller and quieter than Riomaggiore, with a single main street lined with a few shops and restaurants. The heart of Manarola is the harbor area, where visitors gather to watch the sunset paint the houses in shades of orange and pink. Above the village, terraced vineyards produce the renowned Sciacchetrà wine, and a scenic walking path leads to viewpoints overlooking the sea. Manarola is also the starting point for the trail to Corniglia, which passes through vineyards and offers stunning coastal vistas. Unlike other villages, Manarola has no real beach, but there are flat rocks for sunbathing and swimming. The Church of San Lorenzo, dating to 1338, overlooks the main square. Manarola's charm lies in its intimacy; you can explore the entire village in an hour, but many linger for the famous sunset photo opportunity.
