Castel Sismondo is a formidable Renaissance fortress located in Rimini, built between 1437 and 1446 by Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, the lord of Rimini. The castle was designed as both a military stronghold and a symbol of Malatesta power, featuring massive walls, a moat, and four corner towers. Today, it serves as a cultural venue, hosting art exhibitions, conferences, and events. Visitors can explore the castle's courtyards, ramparts, and interior spaces, which often house temporary exhibitions. The castle also houses part of the Fellini Museum, adding a cinematic layer to its historical significance. What makes Castel Sismondo distinctive is its dual identity: a medieval fortress that has been repurposed as a vibrant cultural hub, blending history with contemporary art.
