San Pietro church stands dramatically on a cliff at the southernmost point of Portovenere, its black-and-white striped stone contrasting with the blue sea. Originally a 12th-century Romanesque structure built on a pagan temple site, it features a Gothic apse and a simple interior. The church is a landmark for sailors and a peaceful spot to watch waves crash below. Its location provides one of the best panoramas of the Gulf of Poets and Palmaria Island.
Don't miss
- Admire the black-and-white striped stonework and Gothic apse
- Enjoy panoramic views of the Gulf of Poets and Palmaria Island
- Explore the ancient steps and rocky shoreline around the promontory
