Christ of the Abyss is a submerged bronze statue of Jesus Christ located in the waters off Portofino, Italy. Installed in 1954, the figure stands about 2.5 meters tall on a rocky seabed at a depth of approximately 17 meters. The statue is a popular attraction for scuba divers and snorkelers, who can swim around it and admire the serene pose with arms raised toward the surface. Even non-divers can catch a glimpse during glass-bottom boat tours that pass over the site. The clear waters and abundant marine life add to the experience, making it a unique blend of art, faith, and nature. The statue's green patina contrasts beautifully with the blue sea, creating a hauntingly peaceful sight. It is one of several similar statues worldwide, but the Portofino version is the most famous.
