Corniglia railway station is the gateway to the only Cinque Terre village not directly on the sea. Unlike its coastal neighbors, Corniglia perches atop a 100-meter cliff, and the station lies at the foot of the hill. Upon exiting the train, visitors face a choice: a steep staircase of over 300 steps (the Lardarina) or a shuttle bus that winds up the road to the village center. The climb rewards with sweeping views of vineyards and the Ligurian coast. The station itself is modest, with a single platform and a small waiting area, but its setting amid terraced hillsides makes it memorable. Trains run frequently, connecting to other Cinque Terre towns and La Spezia. The station's location offers a unique perspective, arriving here feels like the start of an ascent into a quieter, greener part of the park.
Don't miss
- Climb the Lardarina staircase for panoramic views of the coast and vineyards.
- Take the shuttle bus to the village center for a quicker ascent.
- Photograph the terraced hillsides visible from the station platform.
- Watch for trains arriving from both directions, the line hugs the coastline.
