Corniglia is the only one of the five Cinque Terre villages that sits atop a cliff rather than directly on the sea. Perched about 100 meters above the water, it offers sweeping views of the Ligurian coastline and terraced vineyards. To reach the village center, visitors must climb the Lardarina, a brick staircase with 33 flights and over 370 steps, or take a shuttle bus from the train station. The narrow streets are lined with pastel-colored houses, small shops, and trattorias serving local wine and pesto. Unlike the busier villages, Corniglia has a quieter, more authentic feel, with fewer crowds and a slower pace. The main square, Largo Taragio, provides a stunning lookout point over the sea and surrounding hills.
