Parco della Favorita is Palermo's largest green space, covering over 400 hectares at the base of Monte Pellegrino. Created in the late 18th century as a royal hunting reserve, it now offers a peaceful escape from the city's bustle. Visitors can stroll through manicured gardens, jog along tree-lined avenues, or explore the Palazzina Cinese, a whimsical Chinese-style palace built for King Ferdinand III. The park also houses a hippodrome (Ippodromo della Favorita) where horse races and equestrian events take place. A small botanical garden, the Orto Botanico di Palermo, is adjacent. The park is popular with locals for picnics, cycling, and leisurely walks, with Monte Pellegrino providing a dramatic backdrop. It's a perfect spot for a relaxing afternoon, blending nature, history, and recreation.
